Hyderabad:HYDRAA has started construction of an additional drainage pipeline in Miyapur to improve the flow of rainwater and prevent flooding during heavy rain. The decision was taken after severe waterlogging occurred near BK Enclave on the Miyapur-Bachupally main road following heavy rainfall late on Monday night.
Large amounts of floodwater accumulated on the road, leaving several vehicles stranded. HYDRAAs Disaster Response Force and Monsoon Emergency Teams staffers worked through the night using pumps to remove the water and restore normal traffic movement. On Tuesday, HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath visited the affected areas to assess the situation. accompanied by Traffic ACP Adi Murthy and other officials.
Officials found that the drainage pipes beneath the road were not capable of carrying the large volume of stormwater. Commissioner Ranganath immediately directed engineers to construct an additional parallel pipeline to increase drainage capacity.
Work on the new pipeline began in the evening. Speaking with Deccan Chronicle, an official said that the expansion works were expected to be completed by Wednesday morning. The new one-metre-wide pipeline will connect the drainage system beneath the road to Peddakudi Cheruvu, allowing floodwater to flow more efficiently into the lake.
“The new pipelines will provide a long-term solution to the flooding problem in the area, and will also divert the water to the lake”, a HYDRAA official said.
