An actress who starred in an iconic 90s TV show has shared a throwback picture of what she looked like almost 30 years ago – and people have all noticed the same detail
This iconic TV star is making all of us nostalgic for the 90s.
If you grew up with television in the 90s and early 2000s, you’ll probably remember that the era was marked by the rise of teen dramas and edgy comedies. Our screens were dominated by attractive American stars in shows like Dawson’s Creek, Charmed, Friends, and Sex and the City, and there was always something interesting to watch on TV when we got home from school or work.
And now, one actress who was a huge star in the late 90s has made us all look back fondly on the era with a series of throwback pictures to her time on one of television’s most iconic shows – Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Alyson Hannigan starred as teenage witch Willow Rosenberg in the supernatural drama series, which aired between 1997 and 2003. The actress, now 52, also had several film roles in the 90s, including playing Michelle Flaherty in the American Pie franchise, but it was her role in Buffy that catapulted her into the spotlight.
In a video on TikTok, Alyson quoted her two children asking her what she was like in the 90s, before the video cut to a series of photos of her from the era, when she would have been in her 20s. These included magazine shoots as well as stills from Buffy and other shows she was in at the time.
People in the comments were quick to point out one thing they had noticed between the current video clip of Alyson and her pictures from 30 years ago – as everyone said the actress had “barely aged” in three decades.
One person said: “You basically look the same! A proper icon of the ’90s and 2000s you were, for sure.”
Another added: “Alyson is CLEARLY a vampire because DAMN you look the exact same!!!”
A third wrote: “And you haven’t aged a day.”
There were also plenty of commenters who said Alyson had been a huge part of their childhood growing up in the 90s. Some admitted to having had a crush on her when they were younger, and others said watching her in Buffy and American Pie helped to shape who they are as adults.
After starring in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alyson went on to have other starring roles in TV shows, including How I Met Your Mother, where she played Lily Aldrin for a whopping 206 episodes between 2005 and 2014.
She most recently appeared on TV screens as a contestant on the 2023 season of Dancing with the Stars, which is the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, and a cooking competition series called Beat Bobby Flay in 2024.
Her latest film credit was in a romantic comedy drama film called Solo Mio, which was released in February 2026. She stars as a woman named Meghan in the film alongside Kevin James, Kim Coates, Nicole Grimaudo, and Jonathan Roumie. The film also sees Andrea Bocelli play a fictional version of himself, and Ed Sheeran also appears as himself.
