The 2026 International Emmy nominations are out, and India has two strong reasons to celebrate. Vir Das has landed his third nomination, and Real Kashmir Football Club has earned its first, giving the country a solid presence across both comedy and drama this year.
For Das, the nod comes for his Netflix stand-up special Fool Volume, in the Comedy category. What makes this milestone particularly special is the history behind it. His first nomination came in 2021 for For India, followed by a win in 2023 for Landing. With this third nomination, Das has now made history as the only Indian performer to be nominated three times at the International Emmys.
Speaking about the recognition, Das said, “There’s something wonderfully strange about being nominated for an International Emmy for a show called Fool Volume. This special came from a period when I literally lost my voice, so to see something that began in silence travel this far is pretty surreal.” He added, “For India was the first time I understood that our comedy could find a home on a global stage, Landing gave me an Emmy, and now Fool Volume has brought me back into that conversation. I’m incredibly grateful to Netflix, my team and everyone who helped make this very strange, very personal show. Three nominations is something I never imagined when we made the first one, so I’m just going to enjoy the fact that the fool keeps getting louder.”
India’s second nomination this year comes from SonyLIV’s Real Kashmir Football Club, up for Drama Series. Starring Manav Kaul and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, the show draws from the real story of Jammu and Kashmir’s first professional football club. Reacting to the news, Kaul said, “Real Kashmir Football Club is one of my favourite works. I always thought this series deserves much, much more. I am so happy for Team RKFC and their hard work. I am super happy.”
The 54th International Emmy Awards was held in New York on November 23.
