Indian National Held in Germany Over Alleged Murder of Partner in Arizona

New Delhi: An Indian national has been arrested by German police in connection with the alleged murder of his partner in Arizona, the United States. According to reports, Varun Batchigari was detained while allegedly attempting to flee to India via Europe.

The case came to light on Thursday after the family of Julissa Rubi, a 19-year-old student living near Arizona State University, approached police after she stopped responding to their calls. Police rushed to her apartment and found her dead under suspicious circumstances.

Rubi’s family alleged that Varun had taken her phone and credit cards and had allegedly used her phone to send messages to her mother.

Police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, investigators reportedly found that Varun had fled from Tucson International Airport to Houston. He later boarded a flight to Berlin, Germany, in an alleged attempt to travel onward to India.

With the assistance of federal authorities, German police located and arrested Varun in Germany before he could continue his journey to India. Further investigation is underway.
