In an effort to enhance the safety of young users, Meta has launched a new feature called “Teen Accounts” on Instagram. This initiative aims to protect teenagers from the potential dangers of social media, including anxiety, addiction, cyberbullying, and low self-esteem.
The Teen Accounts feature automatically sets the accounts of users aged 13 to 17 to private, limiting their interactions with unknown individuals and reducing their exposure to harmful content. Additionally, Instagram has implemented content restrictions to shield teens from inappropriate material. To promote healthier usage habits, the app will send notifications encouraging users to set time limits on their screen time.
A significant aspect of this update is the introduction of a Parents’ Supervision Feature. This allows parents to manage their children’s Instagram experience by setting daily screen time limits and monitoring their interactions on the platform. Parents will also have insights into the topics their teens engage with, ensuring a more secure online environment.
With these measures, Instagram aims to create a safer space for teenagers while empowering parents to oversee their children’s social media activities effectively.
