Kakinada:An international expert team led by Sean Hinchberger visited the Polavaram irrigation project construction area on Wednesday and expressed satisfaction with the progress of works, stating that construction is being carried out in a planned manner within timelines and without compromise on quality standards.
The team is on a three-day inspection visit.
Water resources department special chief secretary Shashibhushan Kumar, Central Water Commission chief engineer Sarabjit Singh Bakshi, director Manish Rathore, deputy directors Ashwani Kumar Verma and Gaurav Iwari, WRD deputy commissioner Gaurav Singhal, and scientists Sachin Gupta and Ravi Agarwal from the Central Soil and Materials Research Station were present.
The team conducted a field inspection of the earth-cum-rock fill dam works and reviewed construction progress as well as diaphragm wall works.
Meanwhile, a CSMRS team comprising experts Siddharth P. Hedavu, Srihari T. Nair and Gaurav Pandey conducted soil tests at the project site on the second day of the visit.
Officials said 14 tests were conducted in the Gap-2 region, focusing on moisture content, soil strength and stability, rock material quality and other structural properties relevant to future construction requirements.
