Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day cease-fire beginning at 5 p.m. ET, President Trump announced Thursday.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanon President Joseph Aoun had settled on the pause “in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries.”
“On Tuesday, the two Countries met for the first time in 34 years here in Washington, D.C., with our Great Secretary of State, Marco Rubio,” he added, noting that the goal is “to achieve a Lasting PEACE.”
Last month, shortly after the war in Iran began, Israel started a massive bombing campaign against Hezbollah, a Lebanese-based, US-designated terror organization backed by Iran.
Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in on again, off again fighting for more than four decades.
