SRIHARIKOTA: In a major boost to India’s indigenous navigation and satellite infrastructure, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the GSLV-F18 mission on Friday night from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR) in Sriharikota.

Lifting off from the Second Launch Pad at 11:51 PM IST, the three-stage Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle—powered by an indigenous cryogenic upper stage—flawlessly injected the 2,250-kg NVS-03 satellite into its designated Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

The launch represents the 20th flight of the GSLV programme and is a cornerstone step in reinforcing and sustaining India’s NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) regional positioning framework.

Equipped with an indigenously developed atomic clock and advanced positioning payloads, NVS-03 augments civil and defence positioning capabilities across the subcontinent and up to 1,500 kilometers beyond Indian geopolitical boundaries. The inclusion of the civilian L1 navigation band alongside existing L5 and S bands will facilitate broader integration into consumer mobile devices, commercial fleet systems, and critical national security applications.
