Some fans still don’t realise they’re related as the star announced a return

Actress Trudie Goodwin was once a familiar face on our screens as she was a regular feature in long-running drama series The Bill.

She is well known for her character June Ackland, who was one of The Bill’s most recognisable faces from the much-loved show. Trudie was one of the original cast members as she made her debut in the pilot episode in 1983 and remained on the show for over three decades. In the end, she played June for 24 years and involved in a number of huge storylines

This included a romance with colleague Jim and being duped by Gabriel Kent (Todd Carty). Although he was in fact not Gabriel, but his adopted brother David hell bent on revenge.

Her stint at Sun Hill Police Station ended in 2007, just a few years before the show was ultimately cancelled. Despite leaving the series behind, she shared her surprise at the news of its demise.

She told the BBC at the time she was in a state of shock all day because I honestly thought it would go on forever, and I was very very sad that it isn’t going to”.

Some time later, the actress enjoyed a spell on soap Emmerdale, in which she played Georgie Sharma for four years from 2011 to 2015. She also had a role in Casualty in which she played Karen Bartley. While in November 2021, she played Meg Clarke in an episode of the BBC’s Doctors. Georgia left Emmerdale in 2015 for a cruise, only to return in 2023, this time portrayed by Lin Blakley.

However, Trudie has a famous relative and some dedicated fans have only just realised. One of her two daughters is Elly Jackson, who was born in 1988.

She is more well known as the lead vocalist of music group La Roux formed in 2006 by her and producer Ben Langmaid. They achieved huge success with songs including For The Kill and Bulletproof in 2009. While their self titled debut album sold over 2 million copies worldwide.

Ben left the group in 2012 but Elly has remained performing and releasing records under then name La Roux. More records followed in 2014 and 2020.

More recently Elly has announced her return to the limelight as she prepares to release a new album this month. She posted a TikTok video with Bulletproof playing that was captioned: “You think you can hurt me? I literally wrote and sung this song, lost my voice, had a nervous breakdown and disappeared for 10 years.”

Speaking about her daughter’s success, Trudie said in 2015: ” It’s very strange. She’s a lot more famous than I am because she is known worldwide. We had no expectations of them performing, but both of my daughters are musicians and songwriters. Music has always been a massive part of their life, not through me but through my husband. He is an actor, but also an extremely good musician.

“In retrospect, acting is probably a kinder profession than the music industry, but the main thing is that they are doing something they are passionate about and are very lucky to be doing something they love. An awful lot of people never have that opportunity in their whole lives. Once I realised there was no putting either of them off, I tried to support them.”
