Doen style at high street prices? Yes please
While Taylor Swift might not have shared any photos of her wedding dress yet, one thing that she’s more than happy to share is her love of Doen. The singer has been spotted in a variety of pretty, feminine looks from the Los Angeles-based brand over the years, from flouncy blouses to slinky, silky dresses. Founded by two sisters, Doen is a celebrity favourite with A-listers including Anne Hathaway, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Kaia Gerber to name just a few.
However, if your budget doesn’t stretch to hundreds of pounds, I’ve spotted a high street homage to the brand’s popular Marianne dress. With a stretchy shirred bodice, square neckline and A-line skirt, the fit and flare silhouette is super flattering and can easily be dressed up or down for any occasion.
While Doen’s original Marianne dress retails for £270, I spotted this Marks and Spencer take on the style and the high street favourite have come up trumps with their own version of the timeless design but the best bit? M&S’ shirred dress is only £42. You’d be hard pressed to spot the difference and it even comes in two colours, black and brown.

But how does it stack up? I headed into the changing rooms to try on M&S’ version and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dress, having tried on the designer version first. Made of cotton poplin, the dress’ bodice hugs my torso, while the skirt skims and flows outwards for a flattering look and the neckline creates a flattering framing.
While I tried it on with my favourite chunky sandals, the versatile style of this dress means it could work for a variety of occasions. Team it with a blazer and ballet flats for the office or it could easily be styled with a clutch bag and heels for a date night look.
Heading on holidays? Pack this easy, breezy dress with a pair of gold or tan leather sandals for a laidback yet glamorous look. At only £42, I’ll be snapping up both the black and brown for easy summer dressing on those days where the weather is throwing you a curve ball.
It’s not just M&S who is nailing this shape either – milkmaid styles with fitted, shirred bodices have been trending for several seasons now – if you prefer a butterfly sleeve to sleeveless styles, check out Nobody’s Child – their Caliope dress is now reduced to £50, down from £99.
In a similar shape to both the Doen and M&S frocks, this style is a failsafe addition to every summer wardrobe and it’s also available in a gorgeous green floral version for only £40 but hurry, sizes are already selling out! Swifty style for under £50? Sign us up!
