Nellore:YSRCongress candidate Kamireddy Satyanarayana Reddy won the Pellakuru ZPTC seat by a margin of 1,707 votes despite contesting the election from jail. His wife, Kamireddy Prabhavatamma, and daughter, Kamireddy Rajani, campaigned in his absence and appealed to voters to support him.
Satyanarayana Reddy has been lodged in Nellore Central Jail as a remand prisoner in connection with a murder case for the past 40 days, his cousin Kamireddy Raja Reddy said. His candidature and the campaign led by his family drew attention to the contest.
YSRC leaders alleged that criminal cases had been foisted against him and claimed that his arrest was politically motivated because he was contesting the election on behalf of their party.
