Jimmy Kimmel made another brutal dig and President Donald Trump and his wife Melania after previously describing the First Lady as an “expectant widow” just days before a gunman opened fire at the White House

Jimmy Kimmel made another brutal dig at President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania. The comedian, 58, was back in his usual slot as host of his nightly talk show on Wednesday evening and ready to double down on the jokes he had told earlier in the week, in which he described First Lady Melania as an “expectant widow”.

The couple were left furious by his words, and demanded that the comedian be fired from ABC, but he has taken yet another dig at them a short time later, mocking them for the way in which Melania appeared to be “swatting” Donald’s hand away at the White House whilst meeting King Charles and Queen Camilla.

He said: “Our first couple, Donald and Melania, lately have seemed closer than ever, and I like to think that I have played a part in that,” as his audience roared with laughter.

He added: “Watch their hands, if you will, as they enter with the King and Queen. I’m just gonna say that is a completely normal way for two people to interact who are very much in love. Maybe that’s why his hands are all bruised, from Melania swatting them away!”

On Thursday 30 April, Trump took to social media to once again demand that the comedian be fired. He said: “When is ABC Fake News Network firing seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel, who incompetently presides over one of the Lowest Rated shows on Television? People are angry. It better be soon!!! President DJT.”

All the drama with Jimmy and the Trumps kicked off last week, when the late-night host made the remark during his Thursday night monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, three days before a gunman opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

He said: “Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow. ” The couple then accused the TV star of inciting violence. A few days after the comments aired, Melania described his comments as “hateful and violent rhetoric” and “atrocious behaviour”, adding that it was “time for ABC to take a stand” against the comedian.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, she wrote: “Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isn’t comedy- his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America. People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.

“A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him. Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.”

Her response came shortly after that of her husband, who wrote on Truth Social: “Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny as attested to by his terrible Television Ratings, made a statement on his Show that is really shocking. He showed a fake video of the First Lady, Melania, and our son, Barron, like they were actually sitting in his studio, listening to him speak, which they weren’t, and never would be. He then stated, ‘Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.

“A day later, a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason. I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale. Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.”

In his first monologue after the shooting, Jimmy said the joke was “a very light roast” referring to the 24-year age gap between the president, 79, and Melania,56, and insisted it was not a call to violence. He said: “It was not – by any stretch of the definition – a call to assassination. And they know that. I’ve been very vocal for many years, speaking out against gun violence, in particular.

“I also should point out Donald Trump is allowed to say whatever he wants to say, as are you and as am I and as are all of us, because under the First Amendment we have as Americans the right to free speech.” The whole controversy was impacted after a man attempted to storm the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday armed with guns and knives, resulting in shots being fired, Trump being bundled off stage unharmed and guests taking cover under their tables.

Cole Tomas Allen was charged on Monday with the attempted assassination of the US president. Federal authorities have suggested the attack, which disrupted one of Washington’s most high-profile events, had been planned for several weeks.

Allen was ordered to remain in custody pending further court hearings and faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted of the assassination charge alone.

An FBI affidavit filed on Monday revealed further details about the alleged planning of the incident. Authorities allege that on April 6, Allen reserved a room at the Washington hotel where the event would be held weeks later.
