Jr NTR is pushing his boundaries for his upcoming film Dragon, an ambitious two-part action epic directed by Prashanth Neel. The expansive narrative reportedly blends gangster drama with a geopolitical conflict. While the project was initially conceived as a single film, the makers later decided to split it into two parts after production began.

The Devara star and Prashanth Neel are said to be working at a brisk pace, with plans to complete a substantial portion of the second installment before the release of the first film. The strategy is expected to help reduce the gap between the two chapters. Dragon: Part 1 is scheduled to hit theatres on June 11, 2027, while the second installment is expected to arrive approximately six months later.

A gritty role and dramatic transformation

For the role, Jr NTR has reportedly undergone a significant physical transformation. The actor has altered his physique and appearance to suit the film’s intense anti-hero character. Recently, Prashanth Neel revealed that the star lost nearly 15 kilograms over four months as part of his preparation.

The film is currently being shot on a massive set erected at Ramoji Film City. Sources suggest that Jr NTR is filming portions for both installments simultaneously to optimize the production schedule. Following a schedule in Jordan, the team is reportedly planning an international leg in Sri Lanka.

A dark action saga with patriotic undertones

Dragon marks the first collaboration between Jr NTR and Prashanth Neel. The film is said to be set against the backdrop of the illegal opium and heroin trade in 1967, with the story unfolding across regions near the borders of India, China, and Bhutan.

Jr NTR reportedly plays Luger, a feared assassin associated with the Afghan Trading Company, while Anil Kapoor essays the role of Raghuveer Rathod, a narcotics bureau chief determined to stop him. In recent interviews, Prashanth Neel hinted that the film would carry strong patriotic themes alongside its action-driven narrative.
