Collin Gosselin is baring it all in his new memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood. In the book, which was published on October 13, 2026, the Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum took several digs at his mom, Kate Gosselin. He opened up about his “dark” and “violent” childhood, accusing Kate of abusing him.
The allegations have put a lot of spotlight on Kate. Previously, Collin’s father and Kate’s ex-husband, Jon Gosselin, had made his own set of accusations against her, including cheating on him during their marriage.

In 2025, Kate Gosselin revealed on TikTok that she has been dating someone for “a little over a year.” But she said that she had known him “for a really long time.” Her ex-husband, Jon, did not believe her and alleged that Kate had an affair with her bodyguard, Steve Neild, during their 10-year marriage. He believed that their romance had been going on way longer than just a year. According to him, Kate and Steve have been dating secretly for nearly 17 years. He said:
“I’m not even upset that she’s with someone… I’m more concerned about when it actually transpired because I know for a long, long time, at least 17 years, that they have been canoodling or together. Obviously it’s been longer than a year. I know for a fact. I do have children and do have a relationship with my children. They tell me stuff.”
When Jon was asked why Kate Gosselin would choose to keep her romance with Steve Neild a secret for so many years, Jon indicated that it might have something to do with monetary reasons. Jon questioned, “If you’re with someone, why are you doing a dating show?” For those unaware, Kate has starred in the 2019 TLC reality show Kate Plus Date.
Jon said that Kate Gosselin’s infidelity played a massive role in their marriage coming to an end. He claimed that for 17 years, he had been labeled a cheater by both TLC and his ex-wife. But in reality, it was Kate who was seeing Steve. He shared:
“When I left, they just created the narrative that I was cheating and I was moving on and doing other things. All meanwhile, I knew these two were still hooking up or doing whatever. I believe Kate was cheating on me during my marriage.”
Jon revealed that many clues led him to believe Kate was cheating on him. For instance, he said that Steve would often sleep over at their Pennsylvania home. Finding it pretty strange, he explained:
“I felt it odd that he was sleeping in my house when we were filming. He slept in the basement of my house. I can’t protect my wife and my family? That was strange.”
Jon gave the example of another incident when Kate Gosselin fell down and hurt herself on the treadmill. And even though Jon was standing right there and offered to call an ambulance, the reality star refused and said, “No, call Steve.” Jon said that it was also weird when they were traveling. He especially questioned why they had to invite Steve Neild’s whole family during his and Kate’s vow renewal in 2008.
Despite so many clues that Kate was having an affair with Steve, Jon was aggravated that she claimed she had been in the relationship for 12 months. He accused Kate of ruining 17 years of multiple people’s lives. According to him, the fact that Kate called him a cheater felt like the pot calling the kettle black.
