Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has formally urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to grant recognition to her proposed political party. In a representation to the ECI, the party requested copies of all objections and supporting materials submitted against its registration before a personal hearing. The move follows Delhi High Court directions to complete proceedings with the ECI first.
The ECI had earlier notified the party that about 1,000 objections were received, including one from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which argued that the initials “TRS” mimic its old name Telangana Rashtra Samithi and could confuse voters.
Party general secretary Anil Kumar said the name was distinct and noted that the ECI had previously approved similar names such as Telangana Rajya Samithi. The party contends it cannot defend its registration under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, unless the ECI shares the complete files of public objections.
