For those who don’t know, Kelly Clarkson went to Art of Play, a curiosity and magic shop in Brooklyn Heights on October 10, 2026. But later claimed that an employee treated her dismissively when she was looking at a mechanical singing-bird automaton.
Notably, the item was valued at around USD 15,000. Later, Kelly shared that the experience made her feel like the famous shopping scene in Pretty Woman. The singer also alleged that the staff member acted like she could not afford it and offered to find her something more affordable.
When Kelly took to her X handle to express her frustration, she claimed that the interaction had cost the store a major sale. Eventually, the security footage from the shop was released by journalist Pablo Torre and went viral. It showed Kelly inside the store for a short period before she left. However, the footage alone did not reveal what happened between them.
Meanwhile, the store owner shared contrasting claims. Art of Play co-owner Adam Rubin said that the Mechanical bird, known as Molly, was a display piece. In turn, it was not available for purchase. According to the store’s explanation, the staff offered to prepare a similar automaton or show her a less expensive alternative. Again, Kelly reacted to the shop owner’s statement and called the business rude and dishonest.
