VIJAYAWADA: The NTR district police on Monday launched the “Khaki Studio” programme in Vijayawada under the leadership of Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, aimed at preventing cybercrime through public awareness.
The initiative was formally inaugurated at the commissioner’s office and is intended to promote awareness on cyber safety, women’s protection, child safety and road safety using structured police training and technology-based outreach.
Police officials said cybercriminals are developing increasingly sophisticated fraud methods, often faster than enforcement agencies can respond with technical countermeasures, leading to new forms of cyber fraud emerging frequently.
Against this backdrop, the commissioner conceptualised the Khaki Studio project with the objective of alerting citizens before crimes occur, rather than only responding after incidents are reported.
Speaking on the occasion, commissioner Rajasekhar Babu said public awareness is the most effective way to curb cyber offences and described the initiative as an effort to build a stronger safety culture in society.
He said the programme represents a modern policing approach where technology is used as a tool for public protection.
As part of the initiative, one constable from each police station will undergo a five-day specialised training programme focused on cybercrime prevention and public outreach.
Police officials said the project will also use Artificial Intelligence-based tools to strengthen cybercrime control mechanisms and improve awareness campaigns.
DCPs Shirin Begum, KGV Saritha, K. Krishna Prasanna and Lakshminarayana, along with inspectors and other police personnel, were present at the launch.
