KOPPAL: A girl student stopped a state transport bus after it allegedly failed to halt for students waiting to board near Hyati village, on the outskirts of Koppal City. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
The City service bus of the Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC), bearing registration number KA 27 F 0550, was travelling towards Koppal on the Hyati route when the students waiting by the roadside reportedly found that it did not stop. One of the girls then stepped in front of the bus and stopped it. Two of her friends are also seen standing with her in front of the bus in the video.
The student is seen questioning the driver and conductor about why the bus was not stopped, pointing out that the students had to appear for examinations. She is also seen waiting for her other friends to board the bus.
Villagers stressed the need to increase the number of buses especially those travelling during school and office hours.
“The number of people travelling by government bus has increased, but the number of buses has not. As a result, buses are often packed with passengers and sometimes do not stop to pick up people waiting along the route. The government should increase the number of buses,” a villager said.
Sources said that the incident reportedly took place two days ago, while the video surfaced on social media on Tuesday.
KSRTC officials told Deccan Chronicle that drivers and conductors had been regularly instructed to be considerate towards passengers and, in particular, to ensure that students and women were not inconvenienced.
