Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to eradicate terrorism and separatist elements from Jammu and Kashmir, issuing a stern warning to those supporting militant activities that they would be tracked down and brought to justice.
Addressing a gathering at the Police Memorial in Zewan near here, on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, Sinha paid glowing tributes to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty and described their sacrifice as a lasting source of inspiration for the nation. The Lt. Governor led the homage ceremony by laying floral wreaths at the Martyrs Memorial, taking the ceremonial salute and observing a two-minute silence in memory of the fallen heroes.
“The fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is not merely a goal but a solemn commitment. We will pursue and eliminate every terrorist network and its supporters, and we will not pause, nor waver, until this land is fully freed from the scourge of separatism and terrorism,” Sinha said. Warning terror sympathisers, he added that no one supporting terrorism would escape the reach of the law. “If you attempt to hide in Pataal (netherworld), we will hunt you up even from there and ensure that you are punished under the law,” he asserted.
Sinha said peace, stability and development in J&K remain vital to India’s aspiration of becoming a developed nation and emphasised that the J&K Police, the Army and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) carry a critical responsibility in safeguarding these objectives.
Paying homage to police martyrs, Sinha said the history of the J&K Police is marked by extraordinary courage, discipline and unwavering dedication to duty. He noted that the force has played a distinguished role in maintaining law and order, combating terrorism and assisting people during emergencies and natural disasters under challenging circumstances.
Highlighting the sacrifices made by the force, the Lt. Governor said thousands of police personnel have laid down their lives in the fight against terrorism, including 1,016 officers and jawans who made the supreme sacrifice in J&K. “Their bravery”, he said, “continues to inspire police forces across the country. The nation will never forget the contribution of these immortal martyrs who dedicated everything to the honour, dignity and glory of the Tricolour.”
The Lt. Governor also reassured the families of martyrs of the government’s continued support and welfare measures. He acknowledged that no recognition or assistance could compensate for the loss of a loved one, but stressed that it remains the nation’s responsibility to honour their sacrifices through meaningful care, welfare and institutional support.
Calling for sustained vigilance against threats to peace, Sinha urged citizens to uphold unity, communal harmony and mutual trust while remaining alert to forces seeking to disrupt stability. He also underscored the need to strengthen measures against drug trafficking and narco-terrorism, describing a drug-free J&K as a collective responsibility.
“The prevention of crimes against women and children, the protection of vulnerable sections and ensuring timely justice for victims must be among our highest priorities,” he said, adding that law enforcement agencies must continuously strengthen monitoring and response mechanisms to tackle emerging challenges.
Sinha further stressed the importance of adopting innovation and smart technologies to make policing more effective against new forms of crime, drug smuggling and the spread of false narratives. He commended the personnel of the J&K Police, Army and CAPFs for their courage, professionalism and spirit of service, and wished them success and safety in all their missions.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, senior civil, police and Army officers, political leaders, family members of martyrs and police personnel were present on the occasion. The ceremony also featured a march-past by police contingents, a band display, interactions with the families of martyrs and a blood donation camp at the memorial complex. Earlier, the Chief Minister and other dignitaries also laid wreaths at the memorial and paid homage to police martyrs.
