George Hardy (Hugh Jackman) is a shepherd who reads detective novels aloud to his flock every night, never suspecting they actually understand every word. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, his sheep, having absorbed years of mystery fiction, conclude they must solve the murder themselves, even if it means leaving the safety of their meadow for the first time and confronting a human world considerably messier than the one in books. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Emma Thompson, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey and Brett Goldstein voice the flock, with Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, and Hong Chau completing the human cast. The film is based on Leonie Swann’s 2005 novel Three Bags Full.
