Former Made In Chelsea star Louise Thompson has been brought to task by her followers over her recent comments of children not being potty trained when attending nursery as many felt her comments were uneducated
Former reality TV star Louise Thompson has been blasted by social media followers for laughing during a discussion about children who are not potty trained before entering the school system. She was talking on the He Said She Said podcast she does with long-time fiancé Ryan Libbey.
The pair were discussing the fact that there are achildren who attend school at an early age without the ability to use the toilet themselves or eat and drink without the help of teachers. Sat by her microphone dressed casually grey and white striped top, the Made In Chelsea star, 36, said: “One in four children are sent to school before they are potty trained, which means their teachers are having to change their nappies and then wipe their bums.”
In response Ryan, who had also appeared on the popular E4 show chimed in adding: “That’s a raw deal”, to which Louise continued: “Isn’t that quite full on?” Louise was seen laughing as Ryan said: “Alright you’ve got a large number of kids in reception who’ve got nappies on and they can’t feed or drink themselves.”
She added: “Maybe its a bit of a cop out they’re like ‘oh my child’s crying and they’re being a bit difficult, I can’t be bothered with the hassle so I’m just going to take the easy route.'”

She continued: “I think people are so distracted these days with screens they can’t be bothered to dedicate the time. I think the responsibility relies fully on the parents. I really don’t think the teachers when doing their teacher training, that’s something they should even have to think about.”
But this sent some fans into a frenzy. One person said: “As a fan of Louise I find this clip incredibly disappointing. Given how she so openly voices her own early struggles with parenting and medical needs to create empathy and understanding to those in HER situation, yet so easily generalises the causes of children not being able to toilet independently on lazy parents while chuckling with her partner about it.”
They added: “While he then (backed up with his 4.5 years parenting experience) lists a number if privileges (including not having to be career driven) that allows him to be available at all times for his child… all while relying on an audience of families that include parents of SEND children, families on long NHS waiting lists for help, families that work all hours to provide in this economy that are doing all they can for their families…far from lazy.”
Their point concluded by them saying: “It’s not our struggle so it must be something to chortle at. Perhaps we need to put our screens down for a second and listen to their podcast while we tackle potty training together.”
Another person added: “Laughing is just not appropriate, there are children with autism being pushed into mainstream education when they are non verbal, have bladder issues. There are senses that people aren’t taught about one is called interoception, the ability to feel your own body and autistic children can have a lack of body awareness, having that feeling of needing to pee or poop, how are they expected to toilet without those feelings?”
“You have bowel issues yourself, imagine someone laughing about that, that’s what you’ve just done and mom shamed in the process also gut issues that getting any kind of medical support for your child once they’re given an autism diagnosis, imagine an adult with diarrhea that urgency to go to the toilet, they have little control but your expecting a child that’s probably never had fully formed stools is expected to toilet train,” they said.
The follower continued saying: “I think if you don’t have the knowledge of the issue it’s best to say nothing at all. It is a raw deal, for those children. I am very glad that I’ve personally never had that challenge. Autistic non verbal children may appear as though they have no awareness but they haven’t gotten the physical abilities to show their awareness imagine being a teenager with no ability to control their bowels to know they need the toilet, imagine soiling yourself and the lack of dignity that comes with that.”
Their point concluded adding: “Imagine being the parent dealing with the pain of seeing their child struggling and being told you took the easy route. It took me four years non stop emulating a hand wave before my son was able to independently wave his own hand. Please educate yourself on this subject because it might not personally affect you but it is heartbreaking for the parents and children it affects.”
