Love Island’s final wasn’t without chaos as some Islanders found themselves escorted away from the villa by security in a bizarre twist
The Love Island final was not without chaos this year, but unbeknown to viewers most of it happened off screen. Days after Julia Majchrzak and Lorenzo Alessi took the crown, it’s emerged that a number of cast-mates were escorted out of the villa by security after arriving to watch the show live.
Samie Eilishi and Harry Cooksley were among those suddenly removed from the site and told they could not watch their partners Tyrique Hyde and Shakira Khan film their scenes.
Aftersun commentator Joe Baggs’ partner Kaine Ruddach had also flown out for the live TV finale, but disaster struck when the group were told to leave the taping despite them “actually having seats in the audience”.
Here’s how it all happened – and some behind the scenes secrets.
Stars escorted away
Samie updated fans on her day, explaining how she had been in Mallorca to watch Tyrique on Aftersun. She had picked her favourite outfit and spent time in hair and make-up ready for her TV appearance. However, after shortly arriving at the villa she was told to leave.
She told her followers: “We then got to set and we was all super excited. Maya [Jama, host] looked unreal as always. But then it all kind of took a turn for the worse because we go told that we weren’t actually allowed to watch the show.
“Before anyone starts asking why in the comments – we don’t know. There was no explanation, three of us did actually have seats in the audience but they just got taken away. Then we got escorted back to the holding villa.”
Harry has also shared some video of the group being escorted away, where Samie and Kaine can be seen, amongst others, heading away from the bright lights of the Love Island villa. “And now we’re being escorted away from the villa,” he told fans alongside the clip with a confused look on his face.
When asked why they were escorted away, Harry told a fan: “Just a mix up I think was a great show though!!”
Holding villa
The trio had to return to the nearby holding villa and Samie managed to get a signal on her phone so she and the Islanders could watch the final on there instead.
Speaking about the final moments of the night, she said: “God knows how I managed it but I got the show up on my phone, found a point with actually quite good signal and we all watched from the phone on a tripod. It wasn’t quite how we expected to spend our evening but it is what it is.”
Harry also shared a zoomed in video from his phone of the group all huddled around Samie’s phone and watching the final from the villa which was fairly nearby the one used for filming.
Behind the scenes
One fan – who was at the Love Island final and Aftersun taping – has revealed all about what happened behind the scenes. During After Sun, she revealed that Aidan, Ope, and Ethan were busy in the audience and host Maya even chatted to the fans.
“I remember Aidan, Ope, and Ethan going into the audience and interacting with people. Because I was in the front, they didn’t come into my section. Though, Maya Jama did speak directly to me. She swears more than I would have thought from TV,” she wrote.
The fan also revealed the Islanders can watch it all on screens, as some of the final is pre-recorded.
Speaking about the screens, she explained: “There are multiple, and it depends on where you are! There was one in the way back by the hideaway/firepit area, one in the area where the outside beds normally are, and one farther out by the cameras. We watch it in real time with what’s playing on ITV, including the clips of Iain Stirling announcing the giveaway and voting.”
Tight security
The fan also revealed that security was tight and there was a gate check on arrival.
“At The Villa, security was intense. In our vans of 12, we passed through a sort of gate check without a gate to be allowed through. They were flying a Spanish flag, which made it feel like it was some sort of government facility lol,” she wrote.
“Our entrance timings into The Villa were also regulated by production and supervised. Though, the bag check at Restaurant Sa Cova was more lax than I would have expected.”
