Love Island’s Cach Mercer was declared victorious on last year’s series along with girlfriend, Toni Laites, however the pair split up seven months later
Love Island winner, Cach Mercer, has admitted he’s already blown his £25,000 prize money less than 12 months after his big win. The professional dancer from London, 25, was declared victorious on last year’s show when he waltzed off into the sunset with then girlfriend, Toni Laites, 24.
There were high hopes for the couple, who split the show’s sought after £50,000 after receiving the majority of the public vote – however seven months after leaving the villa, they called it quits.
It was alleged that the exes had a row at The BRITs, which was the “final straw” for their relationship. However, before they broke up, they enjoyed “endless” dates – something he claimed depleted his prize money quickly.
Revealing that he’s spent every penny of his winnings while on the Cocktails and Takeaway podcast with Madame Joyce, he said: “I gave £10k to my mum and then some of it went on like debts as well…
“And the rest of it, not going to lie, the relationship at the time.
“I was getting cabs everywhere. Me and her [Toni] were going on dates all the time and that, booking places for us to stay, because she ain’t got no where to stay.”
American Toni shared that she was “homeless” and struggling to live in the UK after leaving the Mallorca villa.
Touching on her exit from the show, she said last October: “I never thought that going to work as a waitress in Vegas on a random Monday afternoon would end up putting me on one of the UK’s biggest reality TV shows, let alone winning as the first American.
“I’m so grateful that you guys have put me in the position that I am in, but it hasn’t been easy. I’ve been sleeping on couches and I think this is my seventh Airbnb/hotel.
“Living out of suitcases is hard and I haven’t had a visa so I haven’t been able to work, or go live…”
Despite being fan favourites on Love Island, things went south for the couple at this year’s BRITs. It was reported that they’d had a row and left the event separately. Despite this, reports were coming out that they were trying to work through their problems, as they still had a lot of love for each other.
“It’s definitely over with Toni and Cach and they’ve called it quits,” a source later told the Sun. “It’s a really sad situation but after being on the rocks for a while, the Brits ended up being the final straw and they couldn’t make it work.
“They kept talking and tried to make things work but have now called it a day.”
