Mackenzie Shirilla Tells Mom Thinking Of Crash That Killed BF Makes Her Want To Puke In Jail Call

The spotlight surrounding Ohio criminal, Mackenzie Shirilla, isn’t about to die down anytime soon. This is because her case, where she killed her boyfriend, Dominic Russo and their friend, Davion Flanagan, by intentionally slamming her car into a brick building in 2022, has been gaining renewed attention since the release of The Crash on Netflix. While Mackenzie and her parents have consistently maintained that the crash was an accident, the court has already convicted her of the crime. Amid this, an undated jail call between Mackenzie and her mom has surfaced, where she says that the thought of the car crash makes her want to vomit. 

Mackenzie Shirilla reveals that thinking about her late boyfriend, Dominic, and their friend makes her want to throw up

Recently, TMZ got their hands on an undated jail phone call between the subject of Netflix’s The Crash, Mackenzie Shirilla and her mother, Natalie. The phone call between the duo is not only graphic but also emotional as she recalls the car crash which landed her in prison. In the call, Mackenzie can be heard saying that she still struggles to process how only she ended up surviving the crash while her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, 20, and their friend, Davion Flanagan, 19, lost their lives. Wondering about the same, she remarks:

“How did I not die?” 

Following this, Mackenzie reveals that she tends to have intrusive thoughts about Dominic and Davion’s fatal injuries regularly. She tells her mother that when she’d lie awake at night, the vivid images would suddenly pop into her head as she described the victims’ conditions after the crash. Mackenzie claimed that just the thought of her boyfriend’s death makes her want to puke. Notably, the conversation between the two offers only a brief glimpse into Mackenzie’s state of mind following the crash. And if we consider just this one phone call, it sounds like it took a heavy emotional toll on her. 

Mackenzie Shirilla on her life in prison and how she won’t “be able to have kids” 

Previously, another undated jail phone call between Mackenzie Shirilla and her mother, Natalie, had been obtained by People. In it, Mackenzie opened up about her life behind bars in the Cuyahoga County Jail following her double-murder conviction. She told her mom that she “doesn’t want to live here with these people,” as she is surrounded by “murderers [and] kidnappers,” as Natalie called them. To this, her mother said:

“But anyway, since you have to spend time here, we all knew you were going to anyway, it doesn’t sound so, so bad.” 

At one point in their conversation, Mackenzie can be heard telling her mother that she hopes her parents do not have to sell their house. She then revealed the fears that she has about her future and when she will finally be able to get out of jail. She was quoted as saying: 

“I feel like I want to live off the grid, like, and I’m just — I’m just I’m thinking about like how I’m just gonna be like old when I get out of jail and like, I don’t know, like I’m not gonna be able to have kids or like a family and sh– like that.”

After patiently listening to Mackenzie’s fears, her mom tells her, “Don’t go there,” to which the 21-year-old says that she knows, but it is actually hard to follow that. Eventually, Natalie tells her daughter to “just wait.”
