MUMBAI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was admitted to a private hospital in Thane late Friday night after suffering from viral fever and exhaustion. Doctors have said his condition is stable and have advised complete rest as a precaution.
Mr. Shinde was admitted to Jupiter Hospital in Thane around 2 am on Saturday for treatment. According to hospital sources, he had been experiencing fever and fatigue for the past few days but continued with his official engagements. His condition reportedly worsened during a scheduled event in Thane, after which his subsequent programmes were cancelled.
Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar said Shinde had been unwell due to continuous travel and workload. “Mr. Shinde experienced discomfort due to continuous running around, and doctors have advised him to rest. He is not someone who listens easily, but right now, he is in absolute need of rest,” Mr. Abitkar said.
Doctors treating him confirmed that his condition is stable and reiterated that he has been advised complete rest.
According to hospital sources his admission followed complaints of fever and fatigue over the past few days. Despite this, he continued with his work. However, as his discomfort increased during a scheduled event in Thane, all his subsequent programs were cancelled.
The scheduled induction ceremony of Shubhangi Patil, deputy leader from the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena in Dhule, was also postponed due to Mr. Shinde’s health condition. Later, Ms Patil formally joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde.
