The trailer of Main Vaapas Aaunga was unveiled today in the presence of the makers and cast. Set against the haunting backdrop of Partition, the film tells a story of love, longing and a promise that survives decades.
The trailer paints a heart-wrenching picture of lives torn apart by Partition, reminding us of an era where countless stories remained unfinished, families were separated and memories frozen in time. It opens with Diljit Dosanjh speaking to his grandfather, played by Naseeruddin Shah, who lies on his deathbed, consumed by one final wish: to return to Sargodha, now across the border in Pakistan.
The narrative then travels back in time to his youth. Vedang Raina essays the younger version of Naseeruddin Shah’s character, while Sharvari plays his love interest, Jiah. The two young lovers are separated when the borders cut through Punjab during Partition. Before leaving, he promises, “Main vaapas aaunga.”
More than 70 years later, that promise continues to linger.
It eventually falls upon Diljit’s character to help fulfil his grandfather’s final wish. Beyond being a love story, the film serves as a poignant reminder of the horrors of Partition, displacement and the emotional scars carried across generations. The narrative is beautifully woven by filmmaker Imtiaz Ali.
The film reunites the legendary trio of A.R. Rahman, Irshad Kamil, and Imtiaz Ali, a creative synergy that has given Indian cinema some of its most unforgettable melodies, including the ones released so far from this film.

Produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment along with Mohit Choudhary, Shibasish Sarkar of Window Seat Films, this Birla Studios Worldwide release will showcase in cinemas on 12th June 2026.
