A sex worker has revealed the text messages an Australian man accused of murdering a 17-year-old reportedly sent before he allegedly attempted to dispose of the girl’s body.
Ballarat-born Simon Peter Carman, 45, has been hit with a raft of charges, including murder, concealing and moving a body, and abducting a minor for indecent purposes, after the body of Tunchanok Donhomla was found stuffed inside a suitcase.
In a chilling new detail, a sex worker claims she was messaging with Carman while Donhomla’s body was hidden in the bathroom of his Pattaya apartment.
“I’m so tired,” Carman texted her, according to 7News, “I’m going to go for a swim today.”
The woman is said to have panicked upon hearing hours later that Carman had been arrested and a body found in a suitcase.
Police allege that Carman had hidden Donhomla’s body inside his bathroom for 18 hours while he spent the day shopping, eating, and doing his laundry.
“From around 3:30 a.m. until about 9 p.m., when he disposed of the body, he appeared to go about his daily routine as usual. We watched every single clip,” Police Colonel Anek Srathongyu alleged.
It comes after Thai authorities revealed that Donhomla weighed just 88 pounds and stood at almost 5 feet tall.
Carman, who is 5’9″ tall and weighs over 220 pounds, claimed that he strangled Donhomla in an act of “self-defense.”
Carman claimed the pair had a dispute over payment for Donhomla’s company, at which point he alleged she put a knife to his throat.
During an autopsy, police said Donhomla appeared to have suffered facial injuries consistent with a violent assault, including swelling, bruising, and blood around her mouth and nose.
Reportedly moved to prison ward
Carman has reportedly been moved to a prison hospital wing for safety reasons.
“He is in a ward with around five other men,” a staff member at the jail told Daily Mail on Thursday.
“He is not sick, but we keep him there because he is a hard prisoner. This is our policy when you are a hard prisoner.”
The staffer claimed Carman has shown no emotion since his arrest and has not received any requests for visits from family members or friends.
He was reportedly moved to the Pattaya Remand Prison hospital wing on Tuesday amid concerns his safety may be at risk among the general population of the jail.
Family wants death penalty
The heartbroken family of Donhomla does not believe Carman’s claims of self-defence and are calling for the former truck driver and mechanic to be “executed.”
“I told the police I want him executed. As a mother, I don’t know what else to say. I just want him executed,” said Donhomla’s stepmother, Oradee Bussarakum.
“I asked the police if I could hit him, if I could beat him,” she added.
“Please, just let me. The police told me not to, that he would face the full consequences regardless.”
In a bizarre video message to Donhomla’s parents, Carman said he felt bad “for what happened,” but that it was “out of my control.”
“I know you’ll be very sad, upset; same-same me,” he said.
“It shouldn’t happen, and I hope you’re OK. I know you’re not, but I hope. Please tell [the] other girls to be careful.”
Accused killer ‘regularly’ brought girls home
Carman was living in the Jomtien Condominium apartment blocks in Pattaya, where he reportedly paid $100 a week in rent.
Photos of Carman’s small room were obtained by the ABC earlier this week, after a friend of Donhomla went to confront the Aussie over her friend’s disappearance.
Inside the room were piles of clothing stacked on the couch and an ironing board, as well as loose documents scattered across the table and empty spirit bottles.
Now, sources have claimed that Carman “regularly” brought Thai women back to his apartment, occasionally asking them to “clean his room.”
“She (Tunchanok) was the youngest, but they were all young,” one source told The Daily Telegraph.
Others at the apartment block claimed that young women visited the flat at least once a month, and that he was “respectful” towards them.
“Sometimes he just asked them to clean his room and for a massage, and he would pay 2000 baht (AUD$86)” another source told the outlet.
Messages released by police following Donhomla’s death showed the teen had texted her friends upon her arrival at Carman’s apartment.
“I’ve arrived at [his] apartment. The room is so messy,” it read.
Pattaya City Police Colonel Anek Srathongyu said it was sent so her friends knew “she had arrived so they didn’t have to worry.”
Carman had reportedly been “rejected” by another sex worker earlier that night before he approached Donhomla and her friends around 3 a.m.
CCTV footage captured Donhomla and Carman walking from the Pattaya beachfront, a well-known area frequented by sex workers, and entering the foyer of his accommodation together at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26.
Police have confirmed the teen was killed just 30 minutes later at 4 a.m.
At around 9 p.m., Carman was allegedly seen on camera leaving the building alone with the large black suitcase, which he transported by motorbike.
Police allege he folded the teenager’s naked body into the 29-inch suitcase and dumped it in long grass beside the railway tracks, approximately 2.6 miles from the property.
Along with her body, police found the white Onitsuka trainers she had been wearing that night, jeans, underwear, a mobile phone case, a wallet, and her gold bracelet and necklace.
Tattoos on her back, arms, chest, and left leg were confirmed to match those in her social media images.
Carman was arrested at Bangkok’s main international airport on Friday, just moments before boarding a Jetstar flight to Perth.
