Nagarkurnool: A 57-year-old Rural Medical Practitioner (RMP) was allegedly hacked to death by three assailants at his clinic in Pentalavelli village of Kollapur mandal on Friday.
According to reports, the victim, Bogini Mallaiah (57), was a native of Pathakota village in Pagidyala mandal of Nandyal district, Andhra Pradesh. He had migrated to Pentalavelli around 35 years ago and had been serving as an RMP in the village.
Police said Mallaiah had been involved in a land dispute with some villagers for the past eight years. He was allegedly attacked in connection with the same dispute a few months ago, and a case related to the incident is pending before the Kollapur court. So Mallaiah went to the court on Friday. After attending the court hearing, Mallaiah returned to his clinic. While he was there, two women and a man allegedly entered the clinic, threw red chilli powder into his eyes, and dragged him onto the road. Later, they attacked him with sickles, killing him on the spot.
The brutal murder triggered tension in the village, prompting several shopkeepers to close their businesses. Police rushed to the scene, shifted the body for post-mortem examination, and registered a case.
Mallaiah is survived by his wife, Manemma, and two sons. Based on a complaint lodged by Manemma, police have launched an investigation into the incident.
