The Mango fashion heir accused of pushing his father to his death was allegedly told by his therapist to confront his dad “at the edge of a cliff” days before the billionaire businessman plummeted to his death.
Jonathan Andic was advised by family therapist Maria Julia Lüderwaldt to put himself and his late father, Mango founder Isak Andic, 71, in an “extreme situation” as part of a wonky therapeutic exercise, the therapist’s assistant and translator reportedly told police.
The son was told to take his father to the trail to stand “at the edge of a cliff” and express the psychoanalytic notion of “death of the father” to help the younger Andic free himself from his emotional dependence on the fashion tycoon, the Times reported.
The therapist’s assistant and translator claimed that she chose the Camí de les Feixades trail in Montserrat for the father and son — and even walked it with Jonathan Andic on Dec. 7, just one week before Isak Andic fatally fell more than 300 feet from the same trail, according to the report.
The unnamed assistant, a British national who lives in Barcelona, provided a statement to investigators only recently after claiming she lost sleep for over a year because of what she knew.
She provided police with text messages she exchanged with Lüderwaldt after news of Isak Andic’s death broke, including one message when she asked the therapist what happened.
“Maybe it’s better if I don’t know — otherwise I might be next,” replied Lüderwaldt, who has not been accused of any wrongdoing in the case.
The testimony challenges Jonathan Andic’s previous statements claiming that he only learned about the trail from his friends, according to the Times.
The elder Andic, the founder and CEO of Mango, was one of Spain’s richest men when he died at age 71 after falling more than 300 feet from the cliff outside Barcelona in December 2024.
Jonathan Andic, his eldest son and sole witness to the fall, was arrested May 19 in connection with the death.
The two allegedly battled with each other in the months before the fall, with Jonathan reportedly becoming furious after learning about a recent change to his father’s will.
“It doesn’t surprise me that you thought I was capable of killing you,” Jonathan said in a chilling message to his father in July 2024, according to Spanish police.
Following his arrest, he announced he was stepping down as vice president of Mango, the fashion chain founded by his father, in order to focus on his legal defense.
Jonathan Andic called the accusations he is facing “serious, unjust and unfounded” in an open letter to staff.
