Milan Cirovic has resigned from the positions of Malta national team head coach and Technical Director of Maltese Men’s Water Polo, the Aquatics Sports Association od Malta (ASA), announced today.

ASA emphasized Cirovic’s exceptional contribution to Maltese water polo. The association highlighted that the national program continued its upward trajectory, achieving historic milestones and further enhancing Malta’s reputation on the international stage during Cirovic’s tenure. He played a pivotal role not only in the development of the senior national team but also in youth programs and the sport’s wider technical framework in Malta.

Cirovic (36), who played for Jadran Herceg Novi and served as the coach of Montenegro’s youth and junior national teams, guided Malta from 2023 until the 2026 World Cup Division 2. This winter, Malta achieved its best-ever result at the European Championships in Belgrade, finishing 13th. Malta defeated all rivals in the group for the 13th-16th place classification (Slovakia, Slovenia and Israel).

ASA President Karl Izzo commented:

“Milan’s resignation is a decision we respect, although it is one we receive with genuine sadness. He has been instrumental in raising standards across our national teams and has left an indelible mark on Maltese water polo. His professionalism, dedication, and technical expertise have contributed significantly to some of the most successful years in our recent history. On behalf of the ASA Executive, our athletes, staff, and the wider water polo community, I thank Milan for his exceptional service and wish him every success in his future endeavours.”
