Kadapa: District in-charge minister S. Savitha has directed officials to step up measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in YSR Kadapa district following the detection of fresh cases.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the minister expressed concern over eight confirmed Covid-19 cases and two reported deaths in the district. She instructed district collector C.H. Sridhar and District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr Ravibabu to strictly enforce Covid-19 protocols in affected areas.
The minister directed officials to intensify public awareness on Covid-19 prevention and ensure the use of masks in crowded places and hospitals. She also asked authorities to identify people with symptoms such as fever and cough and shift them to isolation wards without delay.
The collector and DMHO said no new cases had been reported beyond the eight confirmed infections. They said samples had been sent to a laboratory in Pune to identify the variant and study its characteristics.
The officials said sanitation drives had been carried out in areas where cases were reported and bleaching powder had been sprayed as a precaution.
The minister also directed officials to test family members of infected persons. Those testing positive should be shifted to isolation wards, while those testing negative should remain in home isolation for a few days as a precautionary measure.
She further instructed officials to ensure adequate medical care for patients undergoing treatment in isolation wards and maintain sufficient stocks of Covid-19 vaccines to meet any increase in cases.
