Bhopal: The recent remarks by Madhya Pradesh minister and senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya on the pending cases against him in West Bengal has threatened to land him in trouble with the Opposition Congress moving the Election Commission (EC) for action against him for reportedly concealing it in his election affidavit.
The Congress has lodged a complaint with the EC urging the poll body to take suo motu cognizance of the matter and take action against him for not disclosing the alleged pending criminal cases against him in the election affidavit, a Congress leader said here on Thursday.
Madhya Pradesh Congress medica cell chairman Mukesh Nayak said that Mr. Vijayvargiya himself has admitted that several cases had been pending against him in WB.
The minister however did not mention them while filing his nomination from Indore Assembly constituency in the last Assembly polls, Mr. Nayak said.
Mr. Vijayvargiya’s election should be declared null and void for concealing the information in his poll affidavit as it happened in other such cases, he said.
The minister while interacting with the local media persons in Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh recently said that he was advised by the BJP leadership to stay away from West Bengal in the upcoming Assembly elections in that state to avoid trouble since he may be arrested for several cases pending against him in WB.
Mr. Vijayvargiya said that 38 ‘false’ cases were registered against him in WB during his six-year political stint in that state and added that he could come out of WB alive because of the divine intervention of Lord Hanuman.
The minister was in-charge of election affairs of BJP in WB in 2021 Assembly polls.
