Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away on October 8 at the age of 75 after suffering a heart attack. According to his autopsy report, a blood clot in the left main coronary artery led to the fatal cardiac event. A senior doctor from the Goa Medical College and Hospital confirmed the findings on Sunday.
The actor was rushed to a private hospital from his residence in Dona Paula, near Panaji, during the early hours of October 8. Despite doctors performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for nearly 45 minutes, he could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at 5:10 am.
As per the post-mortem findings, the heart attack occurred when a blood clot obstructed the left main coronary artery, which is responsible for supplying blood to a significant portion of the heart.
The medical report identified the cause of death as “acute myocardial infarction due to left main coronary artery thrombosis secondary to atherosclerotic occlusive coronary artery disease, a natural cause of death”.
Earlier, doctors at the private hospital had suspected that the veteran actor suffered a heart attack. According to reports, Patekar’s caretaker contacted the hospital after noticing that the actor was unwell and requested immediate medical assistance.
An ambulance was dispatched to his residence, located less than a kilometre from the hospital. However, despite extensive efforts by the medical team to revive him, the actor did not respond to treatment.
Following his death, Patekar’s body was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination. His mortal remains were subsequently flown to Pune and taken to his farmhouse in Donje village, where his last rites were performed with full state honours.
