KAKINADA: Considerable interest is evident in political circles as to who will become the president of Jana Sena in Kakinada district after the conclusion of the ruling party’s Nirmana Saradhula Samachara Sekarana Committee (information collection committee) meeting to reorganise the party.

Through the process, the JS is trying to identify dedicated grassroots workers for future leadership roles.

Two leaders are believed to be in the hot race –Kakinada Rural MLA Pantham Venkateswara Rao (Nanaji) and former Pithapuram MLA Pendem Dorababu. Nanaji has hit the headlines last month, after holding a meeting by the deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan in Kakinada. He challenged YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to contest from Kakinada Rural in the next polls.

He lashed out at YSRC leaders like former ministers Ambati Rambabu, Perni Nani and Botsa Satyanarayana. Pawan Kalyan backed the comments of Nanaji and gave a new breath of life to the party cadres.

Now, many of them expect Nanaji to become the party’s district president. Nanaji also had the experience of functioning as the district Congress committee president.

Pendem Dorababu became MLA thrice from Pithapuram constituency. After the 2024 elections, he joined the Jana Sena and is working hard for the party. He frequently displays his affection for Pawan Kalyan.

However, three months back, Dorababu has neutralized the unrest being created by former Pithapuram MLA and Telugu Desam leader SVSN Varma, who was denied the MLA ticket in the 2024 elections in favour of Pawan Kalyan. Dorababu physically pushed Varma around in a meeting.

Dorababu hit the headlines with the incident and many leaders and cadres including Telugu Desam leaders and cadres supported Dorababu.

Later Varma was eliminated from the TD constituency incharge post. Party cadres felt that Dorababu is also a strong contender for the Jana Sena district chief post.

At present, Tummala Ramaswamy alias babu is acting as the party’s district president. He has earned a good name with his soft nature and coordination with the alliance party leaders and cadres. After assuming charge as the party’s Kakinada district chief post, he roamed the entire district and encouraged the leaders and cadres to strengthen the party.
