Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie’s, disappearance case does not seem to have any positive updates. A while back, three texts related to the identity of the kidnapper had surfaced in connection with Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. Now, federal investigators have deemed the text messages as fake communications.
An FBI official has revealed that the text messages related to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance are ‘not genuine’
An FBI official in an interview with Reuters revealed that the kidnapping-related texts that hint at Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance are not at all genuine. Savannah Guthrie, at one end, is hoping for a ray of light in the form of a positive update on Nancy’s disappearance. The FBI official shared:
“None of the ransom notes are believed to be genuine.”

The FBI official had further stated that the inauthenticity was related to the two ransom notes that came to light back in February 2026, related to Nancy’s disappearance. A more recent one was someone who claimed to know Nancy’s kidnapper. According to social media discussions, in an attempt to test the authenticity of the first ransom note and trace it back to the perpetrators, the FBI reportedly deposited a very small amount of cryptocurrency into an account as instructed in the message. However, the money was not even touched in the account.
FBI has dismissed all reports stating that Nancy Guthrie’s abductors’ identity has been revealed
TMZ had earlier reported that a third ransom note was discovered related to the identities of Nancy Guthrie’s abductors, and that the video of the main guy involved in her kidnapping is there. However, the FBI reportedly has discounted the authenticity of the same.
An angry netizen had taken to Reddit to express anger at the latest update by the FBI. The comment read, “It’s always possible that what they released to the public isn’t what they actually think, but what they want the perpetrators to believe they are thinking. The strangest part of this is, though, if all random notes were fake, then they haven’t demanded a ransom, and what the hell was she kidnapped for?”
The internet has not stopped discussing the reasons why Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped. Most of the users feel that she was specifically targeted, as Nancy was the mom of TODAY co-host Savannah Guthrie, who is a rich and famous reporter. A user had penned, “It’s possible they just went to a nicer part of town to kidnap a random old lady, though. Thinking it would be a big story, but still relatively contained. Then when they realised how big of a national story it was becoming and who the old lady actually was, they just dumped her to get away from the heat.”
For the unversed, it has been over more than four months that Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy, has disappeared. The FBI, on the other hand, has reached the conclusion that the ransom notes sent were by someone who was not even connected to the case. It squashed all rumours related to TMZ claiming that the identity of the kidnappers was out due to the ransom note received.

Earlier, even a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department reportedly declined to comment on the ransom notes received by the FBI. The ima County Sheriff’s Department stated that they do not have any updates and that Nancy’s case is an active investigation.
For the unversed, when Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped from her Tucson home in Arizona, she was in fragile health. According to many theories on social media, Savannah’s mom, Nancy, may have died even before the kidnappers could execute their further plans. However, there has been no verified information related to the same.
