As Nancy Guthrie remains missing, reports suggest a ransom note has shared the fate of the mother of Today show presenter, Savannah Guthrie.
TV star Savannah Guthrie’s mum Nancy Guthrie remains missing, but a ransom note is reported to have revealed her fate. The elderly mother of the stateside presenter went missing from her home in February.
Ever since, the presenter and her family have worked tirelessly to locate her and bring her home. But a supposed random note has claimed Nancy is dead – and wants millions of pounds to reveal the whereabouts of her body, according to the news site Air Mail.
Reports suggest that one of the ransom notes in February issued a “sputtering and laboured” apology for her inadvertent death. Sources claim that the 84-year-old’s body was potentially offered to be returned in exchange for a sum of money.
Sources close to the investigation told Air Mail, in a piece published Saturday, that the message arrived on February 6. According to the publication, the message came after the individual had previously asked for $4 million for Nancy’s safe return.
At the time, Savannah said: “I believe the two notes that we received that we responded to, I tend to believe those are real.” Both she and her siblings — brother Camron Guthrie and sister Annie Guthrie — directly addressed the alleged abductor in multiple Instagram videos, In them, they pleaded for Nancy’s return.
She later seemed to come to terms with the fact her mum might be dead. She offered $1 million for Nancy’s return and said: “We know that she may be lost.
“She may already be gone. … And if this is what is to be, then we will accept it, but we need to know where she is. We need her to come home.”
In recent days, a retired FBI agent shared her theory about the identity of the masked man caught on Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell cam after the footage became a huge part of the investigation.
As the search for the mother of the TODAY Show host is soon to enter its five month, authorities have yet to identify any suspect or suspects in the case. In February, the FBI released recovered doorbell camera footage from Nancy’s Tucson, Arizona home as well as still images of a masked and armed person on her porch.
The suspect was wearing gloves, a backpack, and a gun holster and was tampering with the camera. Officials discovered DNA from gloves and sent it out for DNA testing, but there was not match in the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). The Pima County Department, who is working with the FBI in Nancy’s case, had stated that they were going to utilise investigative genetic genealogy to analyse the DNA evidence. There has been no update on if that method had led to any results.
Now, retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to ask questions about the investigation. She began her latest post on Thursday, June 18, by noting that “[Law Enforcement] and the FBI are making no sense.”
“Where is the enhanced photo of Porch guy?,” she said. “It exists. Why not share with the public for their help?”
“Billboards: Why is Nancy’s face on them? Put Porch Guy’s face & add Spanish if you want more of the public’s help. Or do you know who porch Guy is?”
She concluded her post with three calls to action. She demanded: “Release the enhanced photos. Change the billboards. Commence searching the desert.”
