VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh municipal administration minister Ponguru Narayana on Thursday paid a surprise visit to the Anna Canteen near the Sai Baba temple at Ranigari Thota in Vijayawada, along with Vijayawada Municipal Corporation commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra.
The minister inspected food quality, sanitation, drinking water arrangements and other facilities at the canteen. He closely examined cleanliness standards in the dining and food serving sections and reviewed the process of cleaning plates and utensils. Facilities including mineral water supply, water coolers, mosquito protection measures and parking arrangements were also inspected.
To personally assess the quality of food, Narayana and the VMC commissioner purchased meal tokens for Rs 5 each and had lunch with the public at the canteen. The minister interacted with diners and sought their feedback on the taste and quality of the meals being served.
Addressing the media later, Narayana said Anna Canteens were providing hygienic and tasty food to the poor in line with the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. He said nearly 3.5 lakh people across Andhra Pradesh were availing themselves of meals at Anna Canteens every day.
