Hyderabad: Candidates participating in NEET PG-2026 counselling will be able to opt for a new freeze and float system, reducing the need to travel to colleges during the admission process. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has introduced the system in its information bulletin and also released the tentative schedule for online counselling for postgraduate medical courses.
The counselling will be conducted in four rounds for 50 per cent All India Quota (AIQ) seats, 100 per cent seats in deemed and central universities, and DNB and Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) seats.
Under the freeze option, candidates satisfied with the seat allotted to them will have to report to the concerned college, submit their certificates, pay the fee and complete admission.
Candidates seeking an upgrade in a subsequent round can opt for float. They will not have to visit the college and can provide consent through the counselling portal and upload their certificates online. The college nodal officer will verify the documents online and provisionally confirm the seat.
The candidates under the float option can also withdraw their candidature online through the portal if they receive a state quota seat or decide to surrender the allotted seat. However, candidates will have to report physically to the college after Round 3.
The MCC has clarified that offline admissions and resignations will not be valid. Candidates will also not be permitted to surrender seats after Round 3.
For the first round, verification of the seat matrix will be completed from October 10 to 12. Registrations will be open from October 12 to noon on October 21, while fee payment can be made until 3 pm on October 21.
Choice filling will be available from October 13 to 10 am on October 22, while choice locking will begin at 4 pm on October 21. Seat processing will be conducted on October 22 and 23 and the results will be announced on October 24.
Candidates allotted seats in the first round will have to report to the respective colleges between October 26 and November 2.
Registrations for the second round will be held from November 6 to 11, with choice filling from November 7 to 12. The seat allotment results will be announced on November 14 and candidates will have to report between November 16 and 23.
