Nippon Steel has completed a new production line at its Nagoya Works after investing about 300 billion yen, as Japan’s largest steelmaker seeks to expand production of high-performance steel products primarily for automakers.
The company held a completion ceremony for the new line on August 6 at the Nagoya Works, which mainly produces steel materials for automobile manufacturers.
Nippon Steel President Tadashi Imai said the facility is expected to have a broad impact on Japan’s steel and automotive industries. “This new line will bring major innovation across the entire supply chain of the steel and automobile industries that support Japan’s manufacturing sector,” Imai said.
The new line is capable of producing about 6 million tons annually of hot-rolled coil, a type of steel used in automobile frames and other components.
Nippon Steel plans to use the expanded production capacity to strengthen its focus on high-performance steel products and support future growth.
