Nivea left her music career for Lil Wayne
Nivea rose to fame for her hits like Don’t Mess with My Man and Laundromat. However, soon she almost left the music industry for the man she loved. According to reports, Nivea met Wayne back in 2002. After Don’t Mess with My Man was dropped, Wayne called Nivea’s label and said he wanted to do a song with her.
Nivea later revealed that Lil Wayne did that just so he could get her number. Their relationship escalated from there, with them getting engaged in late 2002. During an interview with Kandi Burruss on her show On That Note, the singer detailed what happened, and explained how Lil Wayne played a part in her absence from music.
For the unversed, Lil Wayne convinced her to quit the music industry, telling her that he would take care of her. The singer was so in love that she sent a letter to her label that said she was leaving music. She recalled how she just gave up her career to be a housewife and was quoted as saying:
“He said, ‘Come be with me. I got you.’ I’m just sitting there, like, being a housewife.”
Lil Wayne tricked Nivea into moving out of their home
However, things took a turn when Lil Wayne decided that he wanted to be with his daughter, Reginae and ex, Toya Johnson and raise a family together. Nonetheless, instead of talking to Nivea, the singer recalled that Wayne tricked her into moving out. She recalled how he one day told her that he wanted to live in an apartment and got her to move out, while moving in with Toya behind her back. She stated:
“All of a sudden—this is kind of funny—he was like, ‘I ain’t never stay in an apartment before. Let’s get an apartment.’ So we moved out of the house and got an apartment, but I never realised he did that to move Toya [Johnson] back in the house.”
This led the couple to break up, and two years later, Nivea was married to The-Dream, and Lil Wayne married Toya Johnson, which she found out about by surprise when Wayne gave a speech at a birthday party he hosted. However, that was not the end of their relationship. Nivea got back with Wayne after her divorce from The-Dream. The singer reconnected with Lil Wayne after their divorce, and the couple was engaged again in 2009.
During their engagement, they even welcomed a son named Neal Carter, who was born on November 30, 2009. However, this wasn’t an easy period for her either. While carrying Wayne’s child, Nivea learned that actress Lauren London was also pregnant with Lil Wayne’s child just months apart. The singer tried to salvage their relationship. However, it came to an end in June 2010, while Lil Wayne was serving a prison sentence on a weapon charge.
