Valparaiso Takes the Game Away From Purdue At the Buzzer
Purdue started strong, built a 15-point first-half lead and went into halftime ahead 32-20. Valparaiso mounted a comeback behind Rakim Chaney, who finished with 35 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Chaney hit a remarkable buzzer-beating three-pointer to force a second overtime. The game looked like it was heading toward another extra period when Purdue’s Daniel Jacobsen tied the score at 80-80 with just 4.4 seconds remaining.
However, Justus McNair had other plans.
The Valparaiso guard raced down the court and buried a three-pointer over Caden Pierce as time expired. Officials confirmed on review that the ball was shot before the time clock expired.
McNair finished with 17 points, five rebounds and one assist.

The defeat dropped Purdue to 0-2 for the first time since the 1976-77 season. The upset also ended the Boilermakers’ long-standing home dominance against Missouri Valley Conference opponents. Their previous such defeat came in 1978.
Meanwhile, Valparaiso ended its 19-game losing streak against Big Ten opponents.
