WARANGAL: Kakatiya University vice-chancellor Prof. K. Pratap Reddy said the National Service Scheme (NSS) was playing a key role in developing leadership qualities, service spirit and responsible citizenship among youth.
NSS Foundation Day was observed at the university auditorium on Thursday as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Prof. Pratap Reddy said NSS was making significant contributions in education, research, community service, environmental protection, health, sanitation and leadership development. More than 360 NSS units and around 35,000 volunteers under the university were participating in various service activities, he said. He added that the NSS had received recognition at the national level for its services.
NSS programme coordinator Prof. Esam Narayana said the university had received several awards at the state and national levels. Former MP Prof. Azmeera Seetharam Naik and Prof. Kurapati Venkatanarayana explained the various services undertaken through NSS.
Former and current NSS officials and volunteers were felicitated during the programme. The “Seva Kulam” song was also released, while students presented cultural performances.
