Red Rice Recipe
Red rice is a nutritious and flavorful dish that can be enjoyed on its own or as a side. Below is a simple recipe for making delicious red rice.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup long-grain red rice
- 2 cups water or broth (chicken or vegetable)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium tomato, diced (or 1/4 cup tomato puree)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: fresh herbs (like cilantro or parsley) for garnish
Instructions:
- Rinse the Rice:
- Rinse the red rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and ensures fluffier rice.
- Sauté the Vegetables:
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Toast the Rice:
- Add the rinsed red rice to the saucepan and stir to coat it with the oil and vegetables. Toast the rice for about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add Liquid and Seasoning:
- Pour in the water or broth, add the diced tomato, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine all ingredients.
- Cook the Rice:
- Bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover with a tight-fitting lid, and let it simmer for about 40-45 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
- Rest and Fluff:
- Remove from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 5-10 minutes. This allows any remaining steam to finish cooking the rice.
- Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.
- Serve:
- Garnish with fresh herbs if desired and serve warm as a side dish or as part of a main meal.
Enjoy your nutritious and flavorful red rice!
