McLaren Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri had his first experience of the Isle of Man TT, describing the riders as “nuts”.
The Australian driver visited the event during the opening week with his manager and former F1 driver Mark Webber, following his 11th-place finish at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Attending as a guest of Monster Energy, Piastri watched the action unfold from a fan’s front garden at the bottom of the Bray Hill drop. “We’re at someone’s house,” the McLaren driver explained in a social media video.
“We’re going through someone’s garden; apparently, this is the spot to watch. I don’t know what I was expecting, but this wasn’t it.”
As he watched the action, the 25-year-old added: “These guys are nuts.”
Webber also posted, “Always a privilege taking people for their first time to the @ttracesofficial. Never fails to impress them the display of sheer courage.”
This comes after a tricky start to the 2026 F1 season for Piastri. At the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, he lost control of the car at the exit of Turn 4 on the reconnaissance laps in front of his home crowd, ending his race before it had begun. Adding salt to the wound, both he and his McLaren team-mate Lando Norris failed to start the Chinese Grand Prix due to an electrical failure.
The third round in Japan marked a turning point for the Woking outfit. Piastri finished the Japanese Grand Prix in second and the Miami Grand Prix, which came after the unexpected five-week break in April, in third.
Piastri now sits sixth in the drivers’ standings with 48 points following an 11th-place finish at the Canadian Grand Prix last week.
Round six will take place around the streets of Monte Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix on 5-7 June.
