GREEN BAY − Three plays into his second game this season, Green Bay Packers right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele is already done for the year.
Bako-Bewele said he tore his patellar tendon during the Packers‘ opening drive in their win against the New York Jets. It’s a full tear of the tendon, requiring surgery Sept. 24 and an eight- to 10-month recovery, Bako-Bewele said.

“I don’t think the turf helped,” Bako-Bewele said of playing on MetLife Stadium’s surface a week after also playing on artificial turf Week 1 in Minnesota. “I don’t know. I think it was just something that happened. So I’ve just got to just move forward.”
Bako-Bewele’s absence leaves a battered and beleaguered offensive line without its best lineman. It’s the same situation the Packers had at the end of last season when they lost their final five games, all of which Bako-Bewele did not finish. He initially tore his patellar tendon last December in a trip to the Denver Broncos, forcing him to miss almost all of this offseason.
Bako-Bewele said his latest injury is the same knee.
“It’s definitely not what I anticipated happening,” Bako-Bewele said. “You’ve just got to get back to work and start thinking about next year.”
