VISAKHAPATNAM: TD state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao on Friday urged the district administration to review long-vacant houses allotted under the Tidco and Rajiv Gruhakalpa housing schemes and reallocate them to eligible beneficiaries.

Speaking at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at the collectorate, Srinivasa Rao said several houses allotted under the schemes had remained unoccupied for nearly two decades. He said the vacant units had become vulnerable to antisocial activities, affecting families living nearby.

Srinivasa Rao asked the authorities to identify beneficiaries who had failed to occupy the allotted houses, cancel such allotments and redistribute the units to genuinely needy families awaiting housing.

The meeting, chaired by Visakhapatnam MP Mathukumilli Sribharat, was attended by district collector M. Abhishikt Kishore, senior officials and public representatives. Developmental and welfare programmes in the district were reviewed.

The MLA also raised concerns over delays in sanctioning pensions for widows and persons with disabilities. He said social security benefits should reach eligible beneficiaries without delay and urged officials to expedite scrutiny and approval of pending applications.

On rehabilitation issues, sought immediate relief for families displaced by the Gangavaram Port project, particularly those from Gangavaram and Dibbapalem villages. He called for faster disbursal of livelihood assistance, including the promised `1 lakh subsistence support, and implementation of pending rehabilitation commitments.

District collector Abhishikt Kishore assured the meeting that the issues raised would be examined and addressed on priority.
