Chennai: DMK president M.K. Stalin on Sunday said the people are disillusioned with the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government since crimes such as murders, robberies and sexual assaults had increased while the prices of essential commodities are going up. Countering Stalin’s charges, TNCC president B. Manick Tagore asked if there were no murders or crimes during the DMK government.

Speaking at the wedding function of former minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran’s grandson in Chennai, the former Chief Minister said those who had voted for the TVK too are lamenting on their decision. He alleged that the State administration is in disarray and there is not even a single day without news reports of murder, robbery, theft and sexual assaults.

In the last five or six days, there have been reports of children’s kidnap and frequent power outages. The government formed a Singappen Special Force (SSF) but another special force needed to be formed to protect the SSF itself, Stalin said.

Referring to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s remarks that the contest in Tamil Nadu is between two parties, the DMK leader recalled his remarks that the contest was only between the power outages and murderous attacks. The situation had changed and now there is a contest between sexual assault and prevalence of drugs. Citing Joseph Vijay’s speech calling the DMK as an ‘evil force’, he said the people had now understood which is the evil force.

Countering Stalin’s charges of rising crimes, TNCC president B. Manick Tagore asked if there were no murders during the DMK government. “Was there no murder of children during DMK’s rule? This is not law and order deterioration but only isolated incidents of criminal acts happening here and there”, the Congress MP said. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s government is trying to eradicate corruption in police functioning and restore to its earlier glory of functioning like the Scotland Yard police, he said.
