Anantapur:The Telugu Desam-led alliance has suffered a dent in the Anantapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) as counting has begun.
After two rounds of counting, YSRC mayoral candidate K. Ramesh had been leading BJP candidate Ajesh Babu by more than 2,250 votes.
Though the third round of counting has reportedly been completed, its results have not been announced till 10 p.m. Tension is prevailing at the counting centre following objections by the BJP candidate, sources said.
Additional police forces have been deployed.
NDA alliance reportedly allotted the Anantapur corporation to BJP amid internal differences between two TD groups. BJP fielded BJYM leader Ajesh Babu as its mayoral candidate. YSRC fielded student union leader K. Ramesh after denying the ticket to sitting mayor Vasim.
With regard to divisions, YSRC has managed to win 20 of the 62 divisions despite the alliance’s victories across the state, including in Pulivendula and Kadapa.
TD has won 30 divisions, while the Jana Sena secured six and the BJP one. Four independents, who had rebelled against alliance candidates, also won.
TD candidate Dalavai Ravi Kumar won Division 52 by just two votes, securing 1,116 votes against 1,114 of his nearest YSRC rival.
In Division 34, TD candidate Sariputi Ramana won by a margin of 1,019 votes. Independent candidate B. Harsha Vardhan Babu won Division 59 by 277 votes, while TD rebel Madhusudhan Gowd won Division 55 by 107 votes.
