Pop star Perrie Edwards will get her happy ever after today as ties the knot with long-term love and former Liverpool player Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.
The pair met on a dating app following her bitter split with One Direction star Zayn Malik. Today the parents of two little ones will say their vows in a stunning ceremony surrounded by loved-ones in Portugal.
For Perrie it’s a long way from the heartache she faced following a very public split with Zayn. At the time, back in 2015, she felt as though she had been “abandoned” by the love of her life and fell into a deep depression.
While Zayn moved on with stunning supermodel Gigi Hadid, who he wasn’t shy about flaunting his love, Perrie nursed a broken heart.
Perrie and Zayn appeared to be the perfect couple but behind closed doors their romance was far from their public persona.
However, despite their problems, Zayn popped the question and the couple were engaged in 2013, two years before their split.
Appearing on an episode of Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, she revealed that her split was “the worst thing in the world” and said “you feel abandoned and you don’t feel good enough and you feel like you’ve been left for something better or whatever it is.”
But now, Perrie claims to hold no grudge against Zayn for their split. She told the former Made In Chelsea star: “It’s not that anyone’s to blame in the situation, so to speak, but when you are young, you do just think that idea of love is normal and it’s not.
“And you don’t realise that until you step away from it and then you experience something different,” she said.
Speaking about her soon to be husband Alex, she continued: “It’s safety, it’s calm. It’s being able to approach that person with anything and know that they’ll support you. They’ve always got your back. It’s a healthy love and I can’t explain it. It just feels nice.”
After 10 years, focusing on being parents and soaring careers, the couple have decided to finally tie the knot. A close friend told The Sun: “Perrie has been planning their big day for some time and now she cannot wait for it to come. It’s been ten years since she started dating Alex and since then they have had their gorgeous son and daughter, and they couldn’t be happier.”
The insider added: “She is flying to the Algarve with Alex, along with their family and closest friends. It is a very intimate celebration. It is everything Perrie and Alex have ever wanted.
In a chat with 1883 Magazine Perrie opened up about her wedding preparations. She said: “There’s so much in both my personal and professional life – my wedding! I tried on the dress the other day and I’m so happy with it.”
