BENGALURU: In a horrific incident in Mysuru city on Tuesday, a 27-year-old person doused himself using fuel and also on the girl whom he loved before setting on fire near an engineering college in Vijaynagar of the city. However, the girl managed to escape from the fire while the person sustained major burn injuries and was treated at a hospital in the city. It is said it was one-sided love.
It is said Chandan (27) was in love with a girl of his native place Halagoor in Mandya district and the girl studied diploma engineering. On Tuesday morning, Chandan waited for the girl to come out of the college and intercepted her way before he doused her in fuel (petrol) he carried with him and later doused himself to set on fire.
After setting himself on fire, Chandan tried to hug her forcibly and the girl managed to escape the fire and ran towards safety. By then, Chandan had sustained major burns and shifted to a hospital and doctors stated Chandan sustained about 80 burn injuries.
It is suspected Chandan is said to have taken the extreme step over his failed love /marriage proposal. In the video, Chandan was seen screaming seemingly in pain while a crowd had gathered around him. The girl is undergoing treatment at a private hospital while Chandan has been shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru city. Vijaynagar police have registered a case and investigations are on.
